No, the power of Midland G7 Line cannot be changed by menu, there are several bridges that must be cuted in order to increase the power. The same is valid for G8, G9 line. Only Midland G14, G11, HP450 can have increased power via software.

the batteries don't drain fast if you're not transmitting though do they?

If you`re transmitting in Hi Power, the batteries can drain very easily. My advice is to transmit with Hi Power only when needed.

Yes, it`s a great radio, Midland G7 XT also can be modified like G7 Mimetic.
The power it`s up to 3W in PMR446, the side effect is the drain battery, the battery is consumming very fast.
