  • You're talking about delivering a box. But the problem is a box is not a human being - so the analogy doesn't equate. Fedex doesn't treat sick human beings - they move boxes around.

LIkewise, you keep talking about government healthcare like it's a hypothetical - like it's never been tried before (typical American: not invented here syndrome). Instead of speaking hypothetically if you want your answer go look at the other countries that already use single-payer health insurance or similar.

  • You are correct, human beings are not packages. I would be more willing to let the US government take an active role in human health, IF they could do anything they tried to do. In the 1960's they declared a war on poverty, 1970's a war on drug use. Both problems are still around.Further, comparisons to other countries fail when you consider we are the 3rd largest country in the world and dwarf the numbers of any EU member. We also pay vastly lower taxes and give much more money to our military.

  • with your whole usps vs ups vs fedex theory I just want to say that a government run public option would allow people to get health care and would not eradicate private insurance companies for your very point. Basically I'm saying that people who don't have health care would finally be able to afford it and a public option is better than nothing. while people who can afford better would be more than willing to pay more for a private insurance company. in your example fedex or ups.

  • "Inefficiency is not necessarily inherent in socialized programs"... ever hear of USSR? How about Cuba? Want your doctor to be like the guys who pave roads? (lazy good for nothing tax sucking bastards)

  • You're definitely preaching to the choir on this topic, but since this is after all the YouTube comment world I'll go ahead and play devil's advocate.

One of the standard Moore-ian responses to this argument is that despite being displayed in some government-run services, inefficiency is not necessarily inherent in socialized programs. With careful implementation, a nationalized US health care system could theoretically function better than the current system.

Then again, so could the USPS.
