Just something on my mind when I was sitting and thinking about the direction the United States has gone in the past 233 years since Indepenence. This is neither for, nor against religion. This is not an atheist rant. This is an Enlightened rant. It is an American rant. The Separation of Church and State. It's so important, it was the first issue mentioned in the Bill of Rights.

  • Those who cite the Treaty of Tripoli as evidence that this nation was not founded on the Christian religion, usually ignore the Treaty of Paris of 1783. This Treaty, negotiated by Ben Franklin and John Adams among others, is truly a foundational document for the U.S, because by this Treaty Britian recognized the independence of the United States. The Treaty begins with the words, "In the Name of the most holy and undivided Trinity... ," and there is no dispute about its validity or its wording.

  • You have a good point, however, keep in mind that the treaty ended the Revolutionary War and that the Constitution did not come into being until 4 years later. When the Treaty of Tripoli was made, it was using the language of an established American government and not that of a federation of separate colonies as was the case under the Articles of Confederation.

  • @jfsfrnd It is implied, The Bible talks about Creation, and the overwhelming majority of Creationists are Christians.

  • @Jordanicolass Jefferson wasn't talking about the God of the Bible. No where is that document does it say anything about the Biblical God.

    Another thing many people don't know is that some of the Founding Fathers were Freemasons. Meaning, they used the King James Bible and founded America upon Bible principles.

    They also didn't want a theocracy.

  • @kaboomgoo Whose to say a President is really a Christian. Many people can proclaim themselves to be Christian but be far from it, particularly politicians. I put my faith in God, not in nations or politicians. God's kingdom is not of this world.

  • @Pooternackle5 Christianity is not supposed to be institutionalized by some state. It is an individual faith, shared among believers. People perverted that for their own purposes and people came to this country for religious freedom. Today everyone is free to believe what they want so I don't see what all the yacking back and forth is about other than those creationists trying to infiltrate our educational system. But in general, I am Christian and have had many friends who were atheists.LIBERTY
