Arizona's largest Christmas tree arrived at Outlets at Anthem at 6 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28 following a two-day trip from the Shasta Trinity Forest where it was harvested.
Carried on a 50-foot stretch trailer from the Shasta Trinity Forest on the California/Oregon border, the tree was unloaded on the east side of the mall. The freshly cut white fir tree was attached to a strap as a construction crane removed it from the flatbed and dropped it into a specially designed tree well at center court on the north side of the Food Pavilion. The well measures 3 feet wide by 7 feet deep.
Over the next 12 days, a crew of four will shape and plug the tree with 500 live fir branches, coat it with 70 gallons of fire retardant and decorate it with more than 25,000 lights, ornaments and bows.
The eighth annual lighting of the tree is scheduled for Nov. 21 and will feature holiday entertainment by Disney's Savannah Outen and Big Bang's Dueling Pianos.
Outlets at Anthem is located off 1-17, 10 minutes north of Loop 101, at the Anthem Way exit 229.
