Samsung SMX-F40 camcorder display replace

A recently aquired cam that had a smashed LCD display. A donor cam was bought for the display panel and accessories. Very easy to change.

These Samsung camcorders do have good low light sensitivity and image quality, but there are 2 main problems: the microphone gain is too high, and there's no way to turn it down; and they use a strange non-standard 720x480 interlaced MP4 video format, which is very difficult to work with, and does not display the correct widescreen aspect ratio unless you use the "yt:stretch=16:9" tag, because the camcorder saves the videos with the aspect ratio incorrectly set to 3:2 (never fixed by Samsung).

@vwestlife I did notice the mic thing- very sensitive. The "Low Light" vid I did appears ok on YT aspect-wise, and I forget now what setting I used. Not sure why, but as good as the Canon is, even at the lowest settings it still takes over double the file size and upload time.

@fortyfiveplayer MOV/MP4 is more efficient than MPEG2, so that's why the files come out smaller. The advantage of using MPEG2 was that the videos could be directly burned to DVD without re-encoding, but now that's not such a big deal anymore.
