It IS harder to voice act because people can't see the message you are trying to convey. When someone's looking at you, they can see your hand gestures, your eyebrows, your eyes, ..they can see if you're serious, happy, sad. With voice over.. since it's just a voice, the person listening to your voice will hear what you're feeling, so unless you are actually ACTING/PERFORMING behind the microphone, your words will be interpreted differently, than how you meant for it to sound when played back.

been producing voice over for nearly 20 years and all I can say is Mr.Wrist doth protest too much. It's an extension of acting. If you can act you can do Voice Over.There may be a slight learning curve but it's not rocket science. Improve skills may be important but not necessary. As a matter of fact-depending on the client it can be a huge mistake. Depending on the script it may have had a number of revisions so each word has been chosen by committee. Actors can shoot themselves in the foot
