The path that led to the recording and release of Louise Le Mays remarkable debut album was one strewn with happenstance and sheer blind luck. In June 2009, Louise began timidly uploading a number of tracks shed been involved in to her MySpace page. Initially, these consisted of several old songs by a band called WideShot , and some more recent experimental recordings of her own. As is often the case, the MySpace community, including one Dudley Serious, offered warm words and encouragement. Among these mySpace listeners was Chris Evans, music historian, critic and host of the great UK radio show The CURVE BALL. Not only did Chris begin regularly playing the previously unknown Louise's songs on his show , but he also paved the way for her to meet & work with the perfect Producer, in the renound Louis Philippe, as well as introduced her to her new label, FOLKWIT Records.

With in a few short months, by the end of the summer the EP was recorded and will be released in November. I offered to do a quicky little promotional video for one of the incredible tracks "Be My Guru" prior to the release. The video features Photography by Ken Brake {also the EP co-producer/engineer} , Mark Barton and Christopher Simmons.

Praise for Louise Le May from some of the Most Creative Musicians Working Today -

"Wed met through some kind of miracle, and were ending up with another. As an arranger, nothing I have been involved in has given as much pride and joy as these songs. Remarkably, the few friends Id brought into the secret all agreed. I marvel at having been at the centre of these, close enough to almost touch Louises unique flame. Id like you to approach it now. It is easy enough to do. Pay her a visit at louiselemay.com, where you can listen to (almost-completed) mixes of these songs. You will not regret it. " By LOUIS PHILIPPE musican/ Producer of Louise LeMay Debut Release "TELL ME ONE THING THAT'S NEW"

"Music lovers of a certain age are sometimes known to bemoan the fact that there will never be a music to match the creativeness and sheer quality of a given past period - 10, 15, 20, 30 years ago, take your pick. It will never be that good again. Mumbles of agreement around the table and then a silent return to the pint of IPA. Well I have some good news for these miserable men. I have just listened to a bunch of songs by the hitherto unknown Louise Le May and we have in her a talent to match any in recent years.

"The songs are pastoral in the best sense of the word, and brilliantly realised by Louis Philippes understated arrangements and co-production. You sense the strings rather than hear them (gorgeous), a sweep of romance giving way to a lyrical surprise. Electronics mingle with shimmering 12 strings and assembly piano. I love that.
Please join me in welcoming Louise to the next 40 years of unrelenting appreciation. Perhaps somewhere in 2039, some old soldier will be bemoaning the fact that There will never be another Louise Le May. by SEAN O'HAGAN, the High Llamas

"As a caveman from another time and place, I have spent most of my listening time in this life rejecting what women have to say in music. I shouldn't admit that but it's true and I think lends real impact to the way I reacted today to this brilliant new artist.

The female perspective is rarely potent enough to reach what my ears (and mind) seek as beauty in music. And then today Louise Le May crossed my desk. I opened the link with the usual fear and expectation of having to reject another new artist that all the cool kids say is "amazing".

Well, it only took a few bars and I knew that this was a rare moment and a rare new artist. Verse after verse and chorus after chorus of my brain getting that electric soul-spark and I knew that my usual reaction would not get any light today. Not since the debut of Carly Simon have I heard a "girl" with such artistic depth and ability to write a tense series of tonal angles, all packaged quite perfectly in a neat 4 minute song-format. I felt like it was 1985 again, and 4AD was still on top delivering great exotic, and musically challenging female-based music (Cocteau Twins, Frasier Chorus, etc.). So, bravo to Louise, and bravo for Louise. I think this one is for real and ready to make a serious impact, not for female songwriters, no. This girl is playing with the big boys now." by ERIC MATTHEWS, musician/songwriter

"A triumph. The arrangements are top-flight" by VAN DYKE PARKS, composer/Arranger

"Absolutely wonderful. What a haunting voice and equally haunting song-writer. It's brilliant stuff, especially Be My Guru." by FREDO VIOLA, musician/songwriter
