My only deduction would be due to their influx of success (esp. with WGN) in indie ratings in the late 70s and 80s, WFLD must have gained add. revenues for themselves which might have been spent towards more up-to-date equipment, programming, and hiring of more experienced staff (graphics!) which, unfortunately, was what WSNS/WGBO didn't really have but I thought held their own.
I miss all of the independent stations of WSNS 44, WPWR 60/50 and WGBO 66. I still believe the best independent station that did great with their programming was WFLD 32 before the FOX birth...44's was the MOST unique until ONTV. The closest we have to an indie station now is WWME 23/WCIU 26...
