6/28/11 - Here is GOP Rep. Michele Bachmann, fresh off her announcement for President, being interviewed by an antagonistic George Stephanopoulos, who immediately began attacking her as having made false statements in the past. He quoted her as having said in years past that the Founding Fathers "worked tirelessly" to end slavery. He said it as if there were no Founders who opposed slavery and worked against it. In fact, Benjamin Franklin (who once owned slaves but then freed them and worked against it thereafter), John Jay, Alexander Hamilton, and John Adams all opposed slavery.

But in her back and forth with Stephanopoulos, Bachmann cited "John Quincy Adams" as a "Founding Father" who worked against slavery. It is true that John Quincy Adams was against slavery and worked to abolish it. He was the son of a "Founding Father," John Adams, who was against slavery. JQ Adams continued the work of his father and worked tirelessly to end slavery.

This very issue came up earlier in the year. For a detailed rundown on it:

  • "Unparalleled in the rest of the world" Yeah cause the USA is the only democratic country on Earth, Bachmann go back to grade 9 you fuking moron

  • i guarantee you that once she fucked up and made that statement and realized that she had to find some reason to explain why she said it, i guarantee her publicist or whomever is in charge of making her look less stupid, told her to find someone who was somehow involved in both the revolutionary war AND the civil war simultaneously, and when she couldn't, she just said fuck it and said, hey will john quincy adams was ALIVE during the revolutionary war, so, does that make me look less stupid?

  • @ReadmanJ fortunately it's not a black or white thing. maybe if the democraps gave us a better choice we could make some progress, but the current commie has Not done us well, and it was SO predictable, thank you media types, you did such a Wonderful job of pointing this out.

bachmann is not going to make it, she, like BHO, doesn't have the resume. either romney or newt would be a blessing for the economy, obama would just drive us deeper in the hole, no ideas, no substance, no clue

  • @cloudshe I for one, welcome His Imperial Majesty Emperor Obama I, Long May he reign! That would go a long way to making sure the neocons never come anywhere near the levers of power and authority, and that's hardly bad thing when you look at it like that.

  • @dashab Ridiculous. you call Obama's joke budget an attempt to fix the economy? or his blowing off the debt ceiling? or his "pass it NOW" jobs bill written on the back of a cocktail napkin while vacationing? or his leadership in bargaining a supercommittee compromise?

maybe Obama should start acting like President instead of Emperor if he wants to help the economy

  • @dashab Stupid? is wasn't Republicans that voted in the current president, based on No vision, No promises (oh he DID promise immediate money from the IRS if he was voted in), No experience, No BC (apparently, a minor detail).

Stupid? how did "i'm not Bush" resonate as the primary (only?) campaign promise?

Stupid? "this time you'll have to vote for someone else to prove you're not an Idiot"

  • @imax1971 Google it. Your unwillingness to pay any attention to the fact that Republicans have blocked every attempt to fix this means I can't do what you ask. And the numbers show job growth in spite of that fact. If capitalism works, why are we in this boat? Why isn't the market fixing itself? Money doesn't come from nowhere and we have created a society that will not function without money. And Regan fixed nothing. He put a Bandaid on cancer and pretended it wasn't there.

  • @cloudshe Yeah, the MSM is making her say those things. Why didn't I figure that out for myself? Oh, probably because that's not what's happening. And a teleprompter won't stop you from reinventing history if that's what on the screen. And frankly, I have no idea how it got this way, but politics in America are so skewed to the right that and you think of as "liberal" is actually middle of the road everywhere else, don't blame the MSM for Republican stupidity.
