Re: HCV being an STD you're both right. it can be transmitted through unsafe sex but the risk is very low; that doesn't mean it can be ignored though. HCV is a blood bourne virus transmitted mainly by blood to blood or more rarely bodily fluid contact. It has a very long incubation period in the main, though some people become symptomatic quite soon. A small percentage of those infected will manage to fight off the virus themselves with their own immune system. most people don't & need treatment

@LittleImpaler Hep C virus is an STD, but the main cause of infection is not unprotected sex but rather drug injection and blood transfusion.

HBV CAN be transmitted through unafe sex but it isnt an STD... it is transmitted through blood or body fluids. To say this is an STD is crazy! Either way catching HBV or an STD is due to lack of care in most cases.

Mi mother died of Hepatitis C four years ago, it got infected by a blood transfussion. she died a year after that. We shold get the goverment and health department to re-categorise the so call "safe" blood just because it has been tested against HIV. there are so manny diferent diseases that get trasnmited by blood. I love you mom... Forever you will live in my heart and my memories.
