video shows how to easily build very inexpensive solar ovens. total cost $7.50. Items needed: 2 cardboard boxes, black paint and a piece of glass. used newspaper to insulate oven. cost of optional swivel base $5.00. reaches high temperatures and cooks just about everything. plexiglass or an oven roasting bag can be used instead of a piece of glass. wool, rags, sheets of cardboard or even dry grass can be used instead of newspaper. For extra pics and info. - including pics of the completed solar ovens - click the website link located on my youtube channel page.

  • Thankyou for sharing this it's easy to follow and understand. I'm just learning about solar ovens, isn't there a risk of fire with cardboard and so much heat?

  • @frugalmumma You're welcome. I tried to keep the oven as simple as possible. For extra power you can always add reflectors (a single rear reflector would be the easiest type of reflector to use). Paper burns at 451 F (232.7777... C). The oven won't get that hot.

  • Thanks for showing this.

    Inspirational!

Do you think this box could be built from small ripple corrogated iron?

I'd like to leave it outside... and living in a tropical area... rain would be an issue, hence the metal box idea... External could be metal, internal could be cardboard?

    again, thanks. J.

  • @TheParadisoparadiso i'm glad you liked the video. yeah, you should be able to make the box out of small ripple corrugated iron. maybe make both boxes out of metal and use (sand?) for insulation.

  • great looking ovens...light weight too...excellent design..im going to build one out of cardboard boxes myself soon..

  • @centervilletn thanks

  • remember to use non-toxic paint and you can use large cooking bags( for turkeys ) instead of glass if that helps. also an adjustable vent like they have on top of bbq's will help control temps

  • Could you show how to cut the box at the angles?

  • great Vid! - I live in the desert and it gets hot here, and I mean hot...

I am going to give it a try, as I can set the food, then go golfing and be back 5-6 hours later... thanks for the info!

  • @Fearlessthinker it doesn't seem to. sometimes a little moisture appears on the glass, but not very much.

  • go to you local dump and get the mirror out of a big screeen tv...its mylar and is very good ..might weigh 2 lbs total..if it falls it wont break....greatest reflector ever
