  • This is wonderful, thanks for sharing. I always wanted to learn more about Wayang Golek. I read part of a book by Andrew Weintraub once, and performed in a gamelan for many years. I never did get to perform for a dalang.

  • @Venexilio It's Semar. He's actually very "sakti" (a master of magical force). He looks ridiculous because he swallowed a mountain in a competition with his brother Togog, and Togog's mouth became so big. He is probably more sakti than any other characters in wayang world, but he and his 3 ridiculously shaped children: Gareng, Petruk and Bagong/Cepot/Astrajingga who are also very "sakti", provides comic relieve, usually at the middle of the show.

  • I like exotic puppets because they always depict stories of mystery, magic and fairy tales that you've never heard before.

    ... and sorry for the language, but Samar (o Samur?) is the most screwed up puppet character ever.. Loved it!

  • wayang golek sundanese was actually influenced from javanese wayang tungel created by sunang bonang whom spread islam from east & central java to west java...
