I lapped my heatsink after the previous video i did. The system ran great for 2-3 months until Ylod again. I blame Black Ops and Assassins Creed Brotherhood

Redid reflow using Flux pen ordered off ebay, so far its running but I havent done more than a 30min to 1 hr session on it. When i have free time I will do 3-6 hr runs in it for proper testing at 1080p. (Black Ops or Killzone 2)

Anyway the original video is here: you use to compare the problems i had experienced before

  • first of all after a ylod your ps3 wont work the same and the 15 blade fan sucks, saying that, you need to mod your ps3 and install fans where you notice the overheating problem and drill a big enough hole in the cover on the back or front and put a fan to exhaust the hot air out.

  • @larryable1 Thanks for replying, ive already fixed the issue and transferred all content to a new ps3

  • After lapping is the PS3 quieter?

  • @Damasterjj Honestly...no, the only thing that makes it quieter is cleaning the dust when ur inside. Mind you i have no idea what would happen if it was done to a non-ylod or new ps3 though. Probably would be.

  • How you do that.. i have the same problem...help thanks.

  • @NESHER1972 You are saying your heatsinks are warped? Did you watch the original video I posted in the video description?

You have to know EXACTLY what you are doing, have you ever lapped a computer heatsink fan before? for overclocking purposes? If you have then its easy.

If not then I can refer you to several guides and videos that I used to figure out what i should be doing

  • Looks like you applied way too much thermal paste. You should apply somewhere between a bean to pea size drop and the heat-sink will then spread that out. If you keep on getting YLOD then you need to reball your PS3, no other way. Reflow is a simple temporary fix, it will happen again once the joints on the chip begin to crack.

  • Mine does this, I thought it was a thermal paste issue because it was at first, I added new thermal paste and on both heatsink pannels it only touches the corners, i clamp it back together as tight as I can so it can make as much contact as it can but it only touches the corners, are the heatsink pannels warped? I'm not sure how to fix this, somebody who knows what their doin can you plz reply. thx (also shuts down after 5 minutes of playing a game with the warnin that ps3 is too hot)

  • please tell me did you lap the heatsinks only or also the cpu and rsx???

  • So how long did it last after the reflow with the liquid flux?

BTW just got a refurb from sony, should I apply arctic silver 5? Or wait till the 90 day warranty is done?

  • @jawwanaman1 im sorry what do you mean broken? Does the ps3 not power on at all? can you hear the fan running when you turn it on? does it make any beeping noises when you turn it on? What happens to the power light when you turn it on, does it turn on green, the change to yellow then blinks red?

    I need more details please!
