This is one of the finer interpretations of the Ninth. One thing I find fascinating is how very different Furtwangler's tempi are different from Celibidache's when one knows how much the latter refers to Furt! Again, as I have often said, I don't think there is one absolute true vision of such a complex work. One has to discoverthe Ninth from various angles, through various interpretations. What does have true importance is that the Music you are listening to brings you a form of Elevation.

@MrAlgykcho You forgot Giulini's version with the Wiener Philharmoniker... great performance

@Camanesco - That's right; after 66 years, this is THE outstanding Bruckner 9th, that we know of. Furtwangler, in ANY Bruckner Symphony, could bring unforgettable insight and inspiration, without mauling the tempos.

Did you heard Bernstein version, is that literal??? after listening Celibidache, Jochum Karajan, Bernstein version sounds really weird.Complete other view than the other, he even makes VF sound without rounded sound and the attacks are unrelated each other, caprichous.

This is one of the three best interpretation of Bruckner's 9th, the other two were performed by Yeugeni Mravinsky & Takashi Asahina
This is one of those rare and magical performances captured by a microphone, truly a spiritual experience and the greatest Bruckner 9th I ever heard.

I have this version in CD, And while I don't know if there are other Furtwangler commercially available recordings, I do know that this one stands as one the greatest Ninths I have heard -- and that's dozens, with the finest conductors and orchestras.
I also know that you cannot appreciate this colossal interpretation without studying first more literal readings. You need to read, know, and understand what Furtwangler and Bruckner meant to each other's work. This is bigger than life.
