a villanelle - Land of Dreams -

'twas once upon a far away
while drifting on a mid morn moon
I dreamed it was a starry day

Now entering the sleepy fray
dwarf fiddlers playing pixie tune
'twas once upon a far away

On dainty planks of silk parquet
as azure Mars flicked rose Neptune
I dreamed it was a starry day

While we danced light the lead ballet
where yesteryear is sometime soon
'twas once upon a far away

With nothing left but wind to weigh
where all about was nothing strewn
I dreamed it was a starry day

On mattress cool as old Bombay
on pillow soft as granite hewn
'twas once upon a far away
I dreamed it was a starry day

  • You are clearly having fun with this, creating such images of a world turned all catawampus.

The villanelle form works especially well for this theme.

I have also been listening to other pieces you do in this form and have concluded that it is probably the best form to match the normal rythm of your speech.

    A totally delightful experience. 5*

  • What a fantastic affirmative comment, thank you. To think that my poetry is so well received makes the 'effort' of publishing it all worth while. I have enjoyed the rigour of fitting my thoughts into such a tight space, found it invigorating in a way. Again, thank you!

  • This is my favorite one so far. 5/5 and xo

  • Funny peculiar in the mix with with funny haha - just for fun really, which is appropriate! Glad you like it, thank you.

  • everything down to your intonation is perfect...this is very deep...i always get inspiration from the most unexpected places...like YouTube

  • Thanks again rttallie. I have found YouTube to be a great place to mix and share with other poets. Pleased to meet you here!

  • Thanks Kel... sweet dreams!

  • That's a bed time poem for my kid.

    5*****.

  • Cheers Braz! The more the better for my starry day!

  • Thanks Raven. I was surprised how hard I found it to memorize this one for the video - I think the somewhat surreal set of images had something to do with that!
