On Monday, April 18, 2011, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated Kappa Rho Chapter proudly presented the annual Miss Black and Gold Scholarship Pageant on Long Island University: C.W. Post Campus. Hosted by Kappa Rho Chapter President Kareem O'neill and Alumni Alpha Kappa Alpha member, Crystal Gardener as well as David 'DJ Runna' Johnson as well as other members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. Stated by O'neill, "the event is not only to honor and give back to the women of the C.W. Post community but also to reveal the woman that will be crowned Miss Black and Gold by doing more than just expressing the importance of scholarship but also by displaying their elegance, maturity, and talents. These women present the values of the roles they play in their respective societies.

There were four lovely contestants:

Contestant #1: Simone Medley, junior, majoring in Psychology and minoring in Social Work. She is from Brooklyn, New York. Simone is a member of Black Students United and she also started a new club on campus called V-Day, which focuses on the Vagina Monologues. She volunteers at the High School for Music and Theater where she's an advisor for students applying for college. Simone plans to receive her graduate degree and later open a youth center.

Contestant #2: Anny Jules, junior, majoring in Psychology and minoring in Broadcasting. Anny is from Queens, New York. Anny is currently a Residential Assistant, Environmental Assistant, Post Idol 2011 Grand Prize Winner, as well as many other titles. She utilizes her singing and acting experience to teach performance arts to underprivileged inner city youth. Anny wishes to not only perform in life, but to also touch people's lives and hearts through her passion and determination.

Contestant #3: Jazmine McDonald is a freshman who is majoring in Dance. She is from Brooklyn, New York. Jasmine has taught dance to both youth and adults alike. When finished with her college career, she looks to become a choreographer as she continues gaining experience in her feild of study.

Contestant #4: Shantel Martin is a freshman who is majoring in Mass Communications and Nursing. Shantel is from Yonkers, New York. She takes pride in being an active donor for the New York Blood Center. After college, she looks forward to becoming a sportscaster for ESPN.

After a great show filled with a stunning opening dance number starring all the contestants who were partnered up with a member of Alpha Phi Alpha. Swimwear, Talent, Eveningwear and Question & Answer portions. With performances by PCDC, Lyrically Intelligent, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated Step Team, the show was jam packed!

By the end of the show, the 5 judges, all of whom were alumni of Kappa Rho Chapter or Undergraduate members of othe schools of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, came up with their choices for the winners:

Miss Talent: Contestant #4 - Shantel Martin

Miss Congenality: Contestant #3 - Jazmine McDonald

Miss Black: Contestant #3 - Jazmine McDonald

Miss Gold: Contestant #4 - Shantel Martin

Miss Black & Gold: Contestant #2 - Anny Jules
