Dance and Expressive Arts Therapy is a psychotherapeutic method which takes as a starting point the body of the client as well as the creative processes which happen during therapy.

Dance and movement are used to stimulate and structure the therapeutic process and to carry it through. They are mediums to diagnose and shape the therapeutic relationship. Dance gives access to the subconscious and it serves as a medium for gaining awareness.

Observing body language is of special significance if clients are inaccessible via verbal language, if the cause of the disorder lies in a pre-verbal or a physical experience or if it is verbally inexpressible.

It is not only people's inner situation that finds expression in body movement. During therapy, clients also learn to use conscious shaping of movement to understand their inner being and to positively influence themselves and their environment. Dance and Expressive Arts Therapy originated from the social and cultural revolution at the beginning of the 20th century and had its first clinical application in the 1940s. In Germany, Dance and Expressive Arts Therapy has been established in therapy, prevention and rehabilitation for 20 years now.

This part-time course takes 16 months and ends with the "Tanz- und Ausdruckstherapeut/in" (Dance and Expressive Arts Therapist) examination.
