Sue Middleton reads a letter against TERC Investigations Math from Shannon DeMita (the K-12 Curriculum Specialist at Coventry Local School Districts in Akron Ohio) at the Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS) Maryland Board of Education Meeting on June 10, 2009
@mathforphysics Students who get through to college without the standard long division algorithm will be unable to do most algebra and calculus. You can't cluster problem a solution for (x-1)/(x). You will not be able to dirive the infinite sequence in any way other than the standard algorithm.

@mathforphysics they dont use math that stimulate the mind mathematically.... they use methods that are common and only help temporarily. Go get em Sue!

Terc attempts to really teach mathematics. The old method was mostly memorization. Mere memorization will temporarily increase average test scores, but doesn't teach deductive and critical thinking. This amounts to robbing the students who can think about mathematics (often better than their own teachers) from a real education. The students who get through high school by memorization will very likely fail in college.

TERC, Everyday Math, ridiculous. It's NOT the teachers getting these low test scores, it's the "FUZZY MATH"! Great Video
