You shouldnt slap the saddle on the horse like that!

Danny Bruce thinks he is a horse trainer. i know allot of people telling Bruce not to come back because he hits his horses and leaves welts.

Okay, wait. Mix up. Why did he work on rubbing the saddle pad, THEN let her sniff it. Way to give her a chance to figure out what it is. Not my standard procedure. And I have a college degree out of Colorado for this stuff. Same with the saddle, you just try to put it on, common now, novice mistakes.

@AntiSHARKonlineorg Hey! To each their own. :) It really also comes down to the trainer's comfort. I spent way more weeks training my first mare in ground work because I needed the time, not her... she would actually signal me that she was ready for the next step by yawning at me... now her son was born (very unexpected birth as she was not a brood mare) in May and I am looking forward to seeing how he comes along! Maybe my slowness in training appreciated this trainer's gumption.... :p

@617Tora there's nothing wrong with the way he's doing it, afterall every horse is different and this style is an all around way which usually works easily. I personally start them off very young with teaching them ground work, then showing them the saddle and such, so that when it comes time to hop on its no big deal. One thing I rather do is teach them to lung to get the piss and vinegar out of them before I lean over their back or hop on for the first time.

doesnt mean next time will go so well....

@pvfd512 Well, I hope training goes well for you! ♥ Mine did. Once I got on her the first time, she was PERFECT! No spooking.. rearing, or anything of that nature..The second time she spooked 3 times. The 3rd time it was bareback, and she spooked twice, the fourth time I cant remember, the fifth time was bareback, and no spooks, 6th time was PERFECT! That was her ride training, and now she's my best friend, I can pretty much ride her at my ranch whenever! I love her!

I'm trying to train my 5 year old Arabian/Quarter Horse mare. She's just fine with wearing a saddle and bridle, though we're still doing ground work, longing, cavalettis, ect.. Sometimes I have an experience rider helping me train, but sometimes I'm alone. I've only been riding for 6 months, but I consider myself an advanced beginner. Anyone have any tips for when I'm working with my horse?
You may have found it a bit rushed... but his body language is very non offensive to the horse, and I think she read that. And she has to learn that people are just going to do what needs to get done. sometimes being too cautious teaches them they can just keep moving away... then what? That and you can tell she has had a lot of ground work already done with her. I understand what you are saying, as I took a while breaking my horse too... but this looks alright... he has good patience.

Very informative. Nice method of training. Will be training one myself in 9 months. I also admire the patience that you have with the horse.
