@judoandpeace Same place as it was before - top ground game style due to 80% ground game concentration.

@sotoyota BJJ and judo are basically the same thing except the gracies kind of streamlined it a little more and broke it down. Or maybe Maeda decided to teach them in a simplified way, who knows.

Kosen is Kodokan judo ... without the limits on newaza. Ko-sen is an abbreviation of Koko gakko Senmon gakko which means high school and technical colleges ... where open newaza inclusive contests were preserved. Some of the big Univ .. like Kyoto .... retained this type of shiai (match) too.
Sift through the BS on the Net. JJ newaza comes from Japan. Maeda knew the old game and adapted it to match fighting. Taught (some) to the G's. Their kids marketed it well globally but it's from Japan

Great post. Folks Kosen Judo is NOT "Fusen Ryu". I just returned from Japan, trained with Hirata sensei' old group ... the purported "Fusen" contest that lead to newaza going into Kodokan judo? Never happened. These people know. If someone has some proof re the contest - program, news clip whatever ... post it. It's an urban myth until proven.
hey this is wicked! is this kyoto? where did u get this clip?
