Ironwood, Michigan, boasts that it has the "world's tallest Indian" -- a 52-foot, 8-ton, Fiberglas statue of Hiawatha, the protagonist of Longfellow's famous poem. The statue is a popular gathering place for local skateboarders. These photos and video were produced July 25, 2007.

  • Awwww, i miss this place. I've lived there my whole life and now I moved to La Crosse last year. I remember the ore car! the one across the street. and right by the indian is a little park, and across the feild is Manny's baseball feild. I played teeball there when I was 4. My dad plays softball there too. And if you go to the trails behind the softball feild, it goes right to the little league feild. Me and my friend's use to hang out around the trails. It doesnt suck. u hav to find things 2 do

  • when i was 11 years old i used to live on the street right behind that in the brown house with white polka dots! lol and i'm not kidding! it really had polka dots! my buddies and i used to hang out there all the time! and we used to climb into that iron ore car and just cause trouble! lol

  • Hey the blue house across the street my moms friend use to live in it

  • Hey, I lived in Ironwood when I was a kid back in the early 1980s. It was a very nice, wholesome town, with a very low crime rate. At least in Ironwood you don't have to worry about drive-by shootings. You just have to worry about getting killed if your car crashes into a deer. lol

God I miss the Yooper accent. I lost mine 20 years ago. lol
