Shane Van Boening was the recipient of ball-in-hand at the beginning of this rack of 8B in the 2008 ISPA Open Tournament. The rack had many challenges, but SVB was able to chisel it up with little drama.

  • bar boxes should have snooker sized balls and snooker sized pockets. Now THAT would be an interesting game.

  • he is an awesome fisherman as well, but most don't know that.

  • shane is the best, great player, a lot of knowledge and a very strong concentration

  • @earthspawn

I think he means that Shane's stroke doesn't look nearly as fluid and flowing as it does when he's playing on the big table. Like someone else said, when he's on the bar box playing 8 ball, it's more about finesse and not moving the cue ball around more than necessary. You don't need the big long stoke that Shane uses on the nine footer. Take a look at Shane playing on the big table, the difference in his stroke is obvious. Here it's short and more punchy, which = "less pretty".

  • yup.. when i first saw svb's stroke i thought it looked wild.. but it grew on me and i don't know if there is a better looking one out there.

I wonder where he developed the circular motion like that?

  • You do not have a clue where he is. Ranked best in the world in 2007, now ranked in the top three in the world. Pretty sure his stroke is workin for him, you are in no spot to judge.

  • Just think about this, SVB's bridge is about 14" away from the cue ball. Don't you think that if he had an uneffctive stroke he would be such a great player with that long of a bridge?

BTW, someone's stroke being "beautiful or ugly" is just a matter of subjective opinion, there's no standarization for that.

For example, I find John Schmidt's stroke ugly, but it doesn't mean that it "is" ugly, it's just my opinion as a spectator, even though Schmidt's stroke is as efective as any elite pro.

  • svb s stroke is smooooth fluent and pretty to watch duels stroke is nice but not like svb and mikas stoke shouldnt even be mentioned

  • I was at this tournament. I ended up taking 7th in a different bracket. Don't let these bar tables fool you...These tables didn't break for anyone. I broke 13 consecutive times and didn't have a ball drop.

  • I believe he got $2,000 for 1st in that tournament. 2nd place was Chad Vilmont. That's who I believe he was playing in this match.
