What is double-knitting?
Double-knitting is an intermediate-to-advanced technique that combines a little finger dexterity with the ability to read knitting charts. Using two colors at once in a unique way, double knitting allows you to make reversible designs.

  • I LOVE your video. It makes double knitting look so easy.. I would like to make a double knit sweater, but cant figure out how to make the ribbing around the wrist. Can you help with this?

  • @onebusymomma You can do ribbing in double-knitting - instead of knitting all along, just do k1, p1 rib. Make sure to move both yarns every time.

For example, RS will be in capitals, and the back-side yarn will be lowercase - each "pair" of sts will be in parentheses: (K1 p1), (P1 k1), repeat!

  • Amazing! Im English, was taught to knit by my English Grandmother and Mother but I knit American Style, now I wonder where that came from - maybe during the war years?

Does double knitting give you a double thickness? It something I must try. Thanks for the tutorial.

  • @PurdyBear1 Yes, it gives you a double-thick fabric with a reversible design on each side! It's sooo warm. Check out my double-knitting video course, with tons more (much-better-quality) video instructions, tips, and patterns at knitfreedom (dot) com / classes / double - knitting :) Thanks for watching!

  • Thank you so much for this! I did not even know that something like double knitting existed. I'm trying it now in pink and fuchsia on a circular in the round, making a cowl for my niece. In stead of knitting the first and the last stitch together, I'm knitting the first and the 41st stitch (I cast on 80 st) together. I'm wondering though if it's really neccessary to do that. Also I found that when knitting continental, the Norwegian purl works even faster/smoother.

  • @northseaglass Hm, I think if you are double-knitting in the round, you don't need to do anything special like knitting the first and whatever stitches together - that's just for flat projects, so the edges stay together. Since you don't have any edges, you can just keep going around! :)

  • Thanks! This cleared up all my confusion!!!

  • @krysbiehn1 Thank you! Good work for applying this double-knitting technique to new patterns! I haven't made any decreasing videos for double-knitting in the round, but you can post this idea in the KNITFreedom forum (knitfreedom - dot - com / forum) in the "Suggested Videos" thread and I will add it to my list!

  • know how to double knit. So very cool. You're instructions are very easy to follow. I have incorporated two patterns. 1.) Snowboarder hat with ear flaps 2.) double knitting in two colors. Knitting in the round. How do I decrease with two colors in double knitting? Can't get my little brain to process this idea.

  • @jsandss Wonderful! Isn't it fun? I just recorded some new videos and will be posting them very soon!
