  • What is she doing? How is that helping the animal to do tricks?

  • This type of enrichment keeps the animals mentally and physically active. It also allows our biologists to do routine check-ups to ensure that the animals are healthy.

  • They're training for vet examinations. These exercises make the animals feel more comfortable when the time comes for them to receive shots or overall body checkups (though they do inspect the animals daily). Notice how she flicks her fingers at the base of the otter's back -- that simulates the prick of an injection. The nets keep the otter safely restrained and comfortable, and it also keeps the vets and staff safe.

  • Maybe a prep. for get shots? Practice so it doesn't become unnatural when its needed.

  • So cute!
