CEO do not need to be exceptionally bright, their job really is to ensure the status quo, to prevent the business from going under and provided they have good people surrounding them as advisors, which is the number one rule of being a CEO, I don't think it is a particularly challenging job. I did not state nor do I believe CEO's are super humans. I merely pointed out the obvious: major for profit corporations do not typically chose to hire morons. Do you disagree?
