@patty7beth Patty, this is a more complex thing than that. I do believe that many of the people who are in those big prosperity churches are not born again. But there is many that are and I have had to deal with this problem. I go to a church that the prosperity gospel is preach. And I know leaders and have many friends that without a doubt I know that they are saved, but are being deceived into believing these lies. When you are inside, it's something much more complex than from outside.

@JPNR time to explain things so I told him one day we will get together. Comes to be that last saturday my girlfriend, him and me took a 1 hour and a half trip to a Casting Crowns concert. We spent hours and hours talking about these issues and it was like so easy when I explain to him biblically everything and he just completely understood and he was just saying "that's right, that's right." It was a great and humbling experience see how God can use us when we don't deserve it. I love it =)

Amen! In my church they preach something similar to the prosperity gospel and for me is so wrong and I thank God I wasn't brought up on that when He saved me 2 years and a half ago. But, there is this new guy at church and we have become friends. One day they had this prosperity teachings and he asked me how it was because he thought it was great. I ended up just saying aghhh idk... He looked at me like hmm ok. So couple of weeks later he asked me what did I thought about tithes but didn't have

all human beings can be tempted and all human beings are capable of being fooled and fooling themselves and others. everyday people fool themselves into doing one thing over the other when they know better so why is it any different when it concerns the gospel.

Seems Piper's saying the prosperity gospel is more of a doctrinal error than a heresy that refutes the gospel of salvation. He's saying that you can love God, believe Christ as divine, crucified for our sin, risen from the dead ...repent, receive God's grace and Christ's sacrifice for your sin and be saved...while also being deceived into thinking victory in Christ always looks like health, wealth and success. You're saved, but mistaken on those points.

@electricguitarplayr I'm taking a risk here, but I bet you have no higher education than high school or some technical H.S.! I HIGHLY DOUBT you're college educated as your comment is too ignorant to have graduated from higher education!

@electricguitarplayr You don't have a clue what you're talking about!! What colleges, universities and seminaries teach what you claim?

@99minerkc Many historian use the Bible in their studying and also amny are starting to wake up. Many historians are taught atheism in collage so it gets ingrained in them to the point that they have trouble believing. Also Lee strobel and Josh Mcdowell and others like that have tried as atheists to disprove the Bible couldnt. Now they are Christians.
The prosperity gospel is from hell.

Amen!! Thank you so much for posting this. I have just recently come out of the prosperity gospel movement, and your teachings, along with Mark Driscoll's have been really helpful and encouraging to me.
