Okay, so background for the video~
The project was, conceptually to interpret a poem (or possibly song lyrics depending) and translate that into an animation. The technical side of it was open as we were learning the program After Effects and I tried out some new scripts I found. (linking up the equalizer in the background to the bass tab as well as motion events and text effects)
The song/poem was the outro track to The Mars Volta album, Amputechture. The song was titled "El Ciervo Vulnerado" which translates in english to "The Wounded Shepherd," and features ominous features like the track begins to play backwards before culminating to an abrupt end.
The final line, 'because the flies my mouth spills, bare the children at play' has been something that hangs in my memory constantly. I have a sharp tongue and yet compassion for humans (ie impressionable minds) so the effect it can have is often dangerous if unsuspecting.
In review of the animation, I agree, it wasn't very understandable. The song wasn't understood for me either, and in turn the animation could only reflect that sort of feeling. However, another reason it wasn't coherent was because of my understanding of the program at the time. It was very challenging the whole way through and some scenes had to be omitted as I didn't have the time or skill level to accomplish all that I wanted to include.
Hope that might help a bit. =)
