to my daughter Kayla, in recognition of her H.S. Graduation - May 2009

music by Eric L. Carlson
based on the poem "It's Up to You" - Anonymous

Racine Unified School District's Area Choral Festival
March 25, 2010 - J.I. Case High School - Racine, WI
Elizabeth Steege, conducting
Eric Carlson, piano
Suzanne Geoffrey, oboe

Featuring:
Case High School Concert Choir - Elizabeth Steege, director
Gilmore Middle School Choir - Keri Bieri, director
Gifford Elementary Choir - Jack Senzig, director

It's DONE!! My friend Richard Sosa did an AMAZING job editing the video, and I am so thankful to him for his artistic gifts!! Thanks, Rich!

I am also eternally grateful to all the choral directors in RUSD for choosing this song and to the kids for performing it so beautifully!! This video is from the Case Choral Fest, and I thank Liz Steege, Keri Bieri, and Jack Senzig for preparing the kids so well!

I would also like to thank Ellen Christensen and her choirs for the great job they did on this song! Unfortunately, the video from that concert didn't turn out as well, but the audio did, and that is soon to be available on CD from Horlick Choirs :)

Most of all, I'd like to thank my daughter Kayla for inspiring me to write this. She is one-of-a-kind, and has given me much joy over the years! And, I'd like to thank God for giving her to me :)

  • Outstanding! A terrific piece, and very well performed here. This is such a good song!

  • @jasonlyleblack Thanks once again, Jason!! BTW, Prior to the dress rehearsal (on the day of the performance), after the oboist mentioned that D-flat above middle C is one of the worst sounding notes on the oboe, I quickly rewrote the opening oboe solo! Listen to the studio version again to hear the difference :)

  • This was a truly moving performance and I feel honored to have been forwarded the link. I am going to post it on my Facebook page to share with my family and friends.

    Thank You.

  • @Carrottop4u Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed, and I appreciate you sharing it! The poem really stood out when I found it, as it's exactly what I wanted to say to my daughter (Kayla) upon her graduation! And then, the music just flowed because the poem was so inspiring :) I'm humbled that you were moved by this! Have a wonderful day!

  • It's been a long time since I've been in a choral group and this took me back many years...it gave me goosebumps and tears. Beautiful song. Great performance

  • @chubbygrandma Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed, and you can always join a community choral group or church choir! It's great for your soul :)
