Too much to type here, you can easily google 'why goldfish bowls are cruel". They're actually banned in several countries. Basically it's such a small space that the ammonia gets too high, fast.
Pet stores sell goldfish bowls because they want to make money from all the people who are too cheap to spend even $40 dollars on a decent setup.
Instead of saying "no, that's not an appropriate home for a goldfish", they say "$10 please, have a nice day". They couldn't care less about animal welfare.
