Pacific Voyagers are sailing traditional ocean going, Polynesian, double hulled canoes called Vaka Moana meaning ocean canoe. These are the same type of canoes their ancestors used to explore, settle and populate the pan Pacific Islands. April 2011 the Pacific Voyagers set sail across the Pacific Ocean guided solely by celestial navigation and powered by solar energy from the wind and the sun. Canoes are 70 feet or 22 meters long and 18 feet or 6.5 meters wide. There are two masts and one hoe or large paddle to steer with. A little cabin on the deck is where the meals are prepared.
