Janice Langbeh's speech at "Connecticut Cares 2010", a Lambda Legal fundraising event at Mitchells of Westport. Janice lost her partner of 18 years to a brain aneurysm while vacationing in Florida. The staff at Jackson Memorial Hospital refused to allow her to visit her partner up until the last moment of her death. The children never saw their mother for a final goodbye.
Although Janice lost her battle in court, since neither Florida nor the Federal government had any protective laws for same-sex visitation rights, her case inspired the Obama administration to issue a nationwide executive order to extend hospital visitation laws to all same-sex couples. This video is her speech at a recent fundraising event in Connecticut.
