  • You mean you can score on the front foot?

I also notice that the traditional Kendo pants are tied up correct?

  • exactly :)

The area is between the foot and the knee.

In naginata most points are score in this way.

  • scored different than kendo?

  • we score Men - Do - Kote as the kendo

We add an additional part of armor (sune ate) and we can score on it also

  • are the naginata usually held with the dominant hand in reverse?

  • You lurn to practice both normal and reverse stance.

On competition you can surprise your partner in reverse stance.

Some times after a succession of assault you reverse stance. So you have to be in good mood with both stance.

  • @XxRosaPanternxX

Only injures we ever see (kinda rarely) are toenails getting ripped off.

  • @Velorynias : There is a reason, the same as any other general martial art. No, it's not actually weapon training, just for those sports, but it does have its place. That said I would much rather learn Kenjutsu or Naginatajutsu.

  • @Velorynias ....slurpee headache, i did have a witty retort but reading your entire post just froze my brain....thanks

  • looks like fun!

  • Hi this looks pretty interesting. By the way, looking for kendo classes in singapore besides SKC. If u could tell me where, I would be happy.

  • Naginata seems intressting, I am myself a female kendoka and I like the koncept that the most part are women that trains naginata! But won't they get hurt on their feet?

  • @Velorynias A reason to study kendo or naginata would be, just as all martial arts instill, disciplinary values. I mean, it's discouraged to take a martial art with the intention of using all of the techniques you study to inflict damage on anyone. It is instilled that conflicts should be avoided.

  • I'm out of practice anymore, but I loved using this as a weapon. I mastered the bo, and found this to be fairly similar as far as footwork and being able to change stances and hand positions quickly. The overall techniques were different of course, but it made the conversion much easier.

  • bfive stars

  • West Coast? Lucky you! You have Tanaka Myako Sensei there.

Actually my teacher is also from your area.
