@uhartchristian I... kind of disagree with you, all of them are from different countries and centuries! The only person that I can put close to Rachmaninoff as the second greatest composer ever after him is Tchaikovsky, despite he was influential in the previous generation / century.

lets not forget scriabin

Rachmaninoff was a genious and probably the best composer of the 20th century. and one of the best pianists too. His importance in pianomusic is as big as the importance of Liszt or Chopin who both were tremendous good pianists too.... we can put Mozart and Schumann also in this group of composers.... and Bach of course too although he did not have a modern piano at his disposal...

i played both of the versions but i prefer the first version which is more sincere with its title "melody" and you can really SING the melody...this second version is more elaborated and complicated and you can hardly follow the melody in there!..the first version is PURE!!

исполнение конечно великолепное, но сейчас немного другая мода исполнения...

yes, it's nice, but i prefer it in C
it sounds SO MUCH better.
i dunno why
it's more like a dreamscape
a journey on a hot air balloon.
He just couldn't bear the thought that one of his favorite compositions was well within the pianistic reach of weekend pianists like me, so he revised it and made it more difficult! (j/k).
To be serious - this is like an entirely different work. It's like the 1892 version was done by a very talented amateur, and the 1940 version by a genius and seasoned professional!
