Me playing along to an original song that I played bass for; "Infatuated". The singer is Kerie Geni, the pianist is John Lawrence Schick, and the song was written by Paul Bathen.

Played on my Kinal Kompact 6-String Acoustic Bass, strung with Thomastik-Infeld Acousticores. Recorded with a mix of the piezo pickups and a condenser mic.

  • Hey, Greg, what are the EQ and presence settings on your preamp for this recording? I just got my Kinal Kompact, and am learing the characteristics of the electronics. Thanks!

  • @tbourdi - Hey, sorry, this comment must have slipped past me...my 6-string Kompact actually doesn't have an onboard preamp. We went with a Highlander piezo system which just has a stereo direct output (piezos + internal mic). So any EQ I do on this bass is done through the amp or recording interface. On my 4-string Kompact with the B-Band preamp though, I tend to boost the bass EQ and turn down the presence a bit.

  • What bass is that? I'd LOVE a 6-string acoustic bass!

  • It was made for me by Mike Kinal. Check out his website!

  • Great jazz man, real smooth. Is there a studio version of this song? Can't find it here on youtube.

  • Da onde você é cara? Toca muito!

  • I'm looking to pick up an acoustic bass, what's the top 5? I'm Loving This One...

  • I'm loving this for some r&r with some hot chocolate on a freezing, rainy day :D

  • a dislike? a person who doesn't appreciate music then.

  • @Pureupbilloreilly - Check out Mike Kinal's website. You can see prices listed there.

  • @GBagley how much did you pay for your mike kinal 6 string acoustic bass

  • this is some really beautiful music

  • Lovely stuff, I was wondering if you transcribed this at all, It's a lovely song, and I love the tone you're able to get out of that Kinal Kompact, has such a Double-bass esque sound to it, Really Jazzy.

    Keep on Keeping on, man.

  • Yeah.

  • Sublime.

  • But your 4-string is fretless, right?

  • Nope. It's fretted.

  • My 'standard' for this bass has been C#F#BEAD, but I think I did this video before I settled on that tuning. I think it was a little higher, maybe DGCFBbEb. I don't remember exactly now.

  • what tuning are you in? is it standard or your F# tuning?

  • Thanks! I'm not the best at describing musical genres, but I would call this a kind of lounge jazz maybe. Try some Melody Gardot, Alison Burns, Grace Kelly, Inga Swearingen, Jane Monheit, Madeleine Peyroux, Kristin Korb, Norah Jones, Roberta Gambarini, Robin Mckelle, Sara Gazarek. Those rae some of my faves.

  • Cool! Mike does awesome work! I'm not using an amp in this video, but when I do I use an Acoustic Image Coda IIR.

  • What a great sound! I've spoken with Mike, and I am sending him a deposit to build me a 5-string! What kind of amp are you using?

  • i hate my acoustic i wanna electric so bad

  • My God.... I was away from my computer when I heard this, and I thought it was a double bass you were playing- until I saw it wasn't! I've never played the AcoustiCore strings. If I get a set and they sound half that good, I'll be happy as could be!
