  • Sis Daley insisted Mayor Daley, the first Mayor Daley, be home for dinner every night. If the Mayor had an evening dinner or other event she always sent one of the kids with him and that gave him an excuse for leaving early and getting a good night's sleep. It also reminded everyone he was a father and family man first, mayor second. People got the message. All the Daley children were accomplished but all also were highly individual. Every child got special attention in some way.

  • Maggie Daley was on the board of directors at the school I teach at and the Daley had two kids here and came to all school events. Anyone could sit with them and talk with them and there was lots of laughter. Their bungalow in Bridgeport was not some massive mansion, but a house large enough for a large family in an ordinary neighborhood (only the police detail in front and back were not ordinary). The home is still in the family.

  • @waynebrasler The one thing they never really did was show wealth, which is something I personally respect.

  • If you ever knew the Daley family, or worked with them, you would know that this is them plain and simple. Very down to earth people with great warmth and very little hint of the hectic, complicated lives they led. I met Mayor Daley as a consequence of work I was doing on behalf of AIDS causes and began getting invitations to get-togethers at his office and talking with him at various events (he came up to me). I can tell you he is a wonderful guy.

  • R.I.P. Maggie Daley.
