From December 14th 2006

The rocket was carrying a Classified National Reconnaissance Office payload. NROL-21

I took this video from a camera phone from less than 1 mi from the launch site. Pretty cool actually.

SO they were putting a spy satellite up to watch us :(

**UPDATE** 2/23/08
This satellite was destroyed February 21, 2008 by an SM-3 missile fired from the warship USS Lake Erie.

  • It wasnt nuclear material. It was a toxic chemical that is very hazardous to humans. Or so the government claimed

  • @BuRgLaR187 what was it doing in space

  • ahh yes i remember this i was WTF is that in the sky :D

  • xD I was there when that was happening <3

    I miss Vandenberg

  • I used to live on VAFB, I remember the sky being reddish-orange on some evenings--I was told it was because of the rockets, not sure if it's true, but I thought it was cool anyway. My classmates at school and I used to run to the windows or outside whenever there was a launch

  • This whole event was a good demonstration of the US capability to shoot down fast moving targets with relative ease. Nice vid.

  • Well there has been Russian satalites back during USSR that had nuclear reactors on them which landed in the ocean during failures. There is one off the coast of japan and another reactor in the southern atlantic.

  • it doesn't even have nuclear material on it! don't believe everything you hear!

  • This is the spy satellite that will crash sometime soon. They lost control over it, and dont even know where it will crash.

what I want to know is, How much Nuclear material it has onboard???

  • The fact that you were less than away makes me wonder, we're you at the ECP?
