My 3 year old said his first word today. He said his name, "Jack", while pointing to a picture of himself. Later, while driving to the grocery store, this song came on my iPod and I just broke down crying because I suddenly remembered one of his therapists telling me more than a year ago that speech and language delays are like a traffic jam in the brain, and this song was just too perfect. I thank my stars for green lights today :D

Sorry, this may make no sense if you are not familiar with genetics, but here's my answer: Not officially. However, because all 5 of the kids (my son here in the US, two in France, and two in Brazil) have the same symptoms (psycho-motor delay, eye abnormalities, and similar faces) and all have deletions on the long arm of the 5th chromosome that are slightly different but include 5q12.1, it's been proposed that it is a syndrome and would likely be named 5q12.1 deletion syndrome.

He sees a speech therapist and an occupational therapist because he has a severe speech/language delay and motor/cognitive delays. He is intellectually disabled due to a rare chromosomal deletion (he is one of 5 in the world with this particular deletion).
