Meet Tony Karol -- a luthier; a maker of guitars. For the past seven years, Tony has made a career from building custom guitars out of the basement of his Mississauga home. In fact, Tony's craftsmanship is becoming so widely desired, even Canadian folk legend Bruce Cockburn plays a custom six-string Karol baritone.
Tony's process is not a new one by any means. The art of the luthier is a tradition that has existed for hundreds of years, but building a custom guitar is not just about process: a guitar itself can be mass manufactured in a factory. Tony's instruments marry science, artistry, craftsmanship and passion providing each individual client with something completely unique. Every finite detail in the fretting, the inlay work, and the intricate rosette designs is a labour of love, and no end product is ever quite the same. This is the passion of Tony Karol.

I saw Tony in Ottawa where he had a display at the Tommy Emmanuel show. He had three guitars there. One was over $12,000 but WOW, what an awesome guitar that was. I might just have to buy one some day.

Very good, a fine luthier with a straight from the heart account of how it all happens.

I really enjoyed this, Tyler! The sound, the style, the shots, all of it. Very very cool. And I especially liked the beginning shot of the home location - put the rest into perspective. I'm proud of you! your Miss Ellie
