I had the privilege of not only covering the Laie Hawaii Temple open house for several media for three-and-a-half weeks in October-November 2010, but also as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the Mormons) of volunteering at this most amazing edifice that is literally just a block or two from my home. So, on Nov. 13, the last day of the open house, I felt compelled to grab my video camera and put this together.
For Mormons and others alike, the open house provided a rare glimpse inside the Laie Hawaii Temple: This was the first time since 1978 that the temple was opened to the public, and only the second time since it was originally dedicated on Thanksgiving Day 1919. It's very beautiful inside-and-out, and on Sunday, Nov. 21, 2010, it will be re-dedicated for sacred worship services.
For the almost 22 months of construction and renovation work, I think the thing I missed the most was not having the lights turn our temple into a gleaming beacon at night...but they're back on now. For more on the Laie Hawaii Temple, go to http://kaleo.info. ALOHA.
