most of my friends can't handle listening to Daniel Johnston. I tried to play Hi How are You for a few people and they complained until I turned it off. Then I made them watch The Devil and Daniel Johnston and all of a sudden they were interested. I think it's because he's insane and they like that kind of thing. I wish they would have seen him for what I do instead of just being curious as to what a crazy person sings about.

Daniel's voice just sucked all of the life in the room once the speakers started to blare... don't understand how something as simple as a human voice has the capacity to be so potent....

there was a theif once, in a small far away land. he was a theif for farming was too slow for him. but he was not rash. he had seen what happend to outlaws, and knew this was not for him. so every third night he dressed up in a costume, and performed small random acts of terror always leaving his calling card behind and always allowing on person to see him. the land in which he lived throughout the weeks to come exploded with talk of this vilgilantee.

I've always enjoyed this one of his. I don't think people give Daniel enough credit intellectually. One of the most impressive things you can do as an artist is take something really simple and leave it open to hundreds of different and complex interpretations.
