  • I'm glad I watched the "Wiring a Lamp" by doitbest before watching this. It became pretty clear that the reason the lamp wouldn't turn on was because the wires were attached to the socket screws incorrectly. Baybea simply reversed the wires and it worked. It helps to know the reason why, so you would know what to look for next time.

Also doitbest explains the knot. This is a code standard for making it impossible or extremely difficult to pull the cord off the socket screws.

  • This presenter randomly connects the two wires to the lamp socket, completely ignoring the very important issue of wiring with the correct polarity. Very dangerous. If you don't wish to be electrocuted or have your house burn down, please do a search on YouTube for this video instead: "Wiring a Lamp" by doitbest.

  • what the? I hear West Coast US accent then a little English/Northern England accent mixed in there...why?

  • It is a good idea to maintain polarity on the lamp socket. The wire which connects to the smaller of the plug prongs should be wired to the socket screw which supplies current to the socket center connection - not the metal outside part into which the buib screw surface touches.

  • Thanks so much! I had on old lamp I wanted to fix, and after watching this it only took me a couple of minutes to fix mine.

  • You didn't mention anything about polarity on this video. Your particular lamp cord may not be polarized, but a lot of lamps are. Rest assured, if you get the polarity incorrect, your cord will fry once you plug it up and you will damage your lamp.

  • Yeah really useful ;-)

  • A thousand thanks for your video, it was really useful for my technology project :)

  • bravo !!!!!!

  • interesting, but i'm not changing more than a light bulb. electricity makes me nervous; i'd probably burn my house down.
