This vision guided car is not given any driving instructions in the software from the start. It actually "learns" how to drive and stay in the "left hand lane", just by watching and observing the driving habits of a human driver (or operator) who must train it to drive that way. VIC uses a multi-layer feedforward and feedback ANN (Artificial Neural Network) algorithm that trains "weights" which determine driving direction, speed and lane preference. After about 30 training sessions (where the robot analyzes road edge data as well as steering and speed commands from the operator), the embedded VIC microcontroller is able to mimic the driving behaviour of the human operator and drive in the left hand lane successfully, even after bypassing or overtaking obstacles or other vehicles ahead.
