For Kathy Simmonds, being active is important. In the fall of 2010, hip pain began interfering with her active lifestyle. Indiana University Health Orthopedic Surgeon Jonathan Surdam, MD diagnosed Kathy with avascular necrosis, a condition in which bone tissue dies because of a lack of blood supply. The cure for Kathy was a total hip replacement at IU Health Bloomington Hospital. Today, she's back to being active and playing with her grandkids.
