wait, he repeated twice that he didnt know what o'levels his son got, so surely he DOES remember whats going on even when hes forgot, but maybe subconcious, otherwise he wouldnt repeat a statement as unusual as that twice like that, or remember that he "lost conciousness" very strange

Reminds me of an old remarkable neighbour of mine, would greet us when we came home with "oh have you just moved in? How lovely" and to wake up to her playing the piano all hours was never a bother.
