Am I the only person who has noticed that Brian Williams, of NBC Nightly News, isn't very good at punctuation?
Often he tends to ignore commas and periods, distorting the intended meaning. Then, because he didn't use those natural pauses to take a breath, he often inserts a pause where it shouldn't be, further obfuscating the message.
Notice how Michelle Kosinsky is identified as "a retired U.S. navy captain" in this clip from the NBC Nighly News broadcast of January 19, 2012.
Wow! What happened? Halfway through the January 26, 2012 broadcast of the NBC Nightly News I suddenly realized that I hadn't been startled once by missed punctuation. For the rest of the broadcast, I listened closely to Brian William's delivery. I got the distinct impression that he was very focused on using pauses to convey his message accurately.
Whatever the reason, good job!
