I've noticed some people on Youtube like to criticize Mike Love, but he seems to have been a stable/sober anchor that held the group together throughout the '70's and '80's.

Yes I remember hearing a recording of him singing God only Knows on this tour (poss this gig)...man it was awful! He must've been really suffering personally at this time!

Carl held out for a very long time as far as being intoxicated on stage goes. His brothers did it LONG before he ever did. Not to say it's alright. He was always the consumate performer and stage presence. Just as the other brothers, he also had lots of problems off stage....wife problems, brother problems, kids, etc..... Don't know how he held up sometimes.

Never saw Carl like that either but in a way it was funny. Still love him and I think once in a while everyone deserves to get a little hammered albeit probably not wise if you have to perform.
