Mark Romanek's Static - Widely regarded as one of the most underrated movies of the 80s Static (1986) is a strange comedy from independent Chicago filmmaker Mark Romanek that depicts Gordon, an Arizona teenager who lost his parents in an auto accident, trying to invent a television set that can receive signals from heaven.

  • STATIC is my personal favorite film of all time. The fact that Mark Romanek doesn't care to talk about it (calling it early juvenilia for him), is sad. Everyone I've shown this film to was deeply touched by it. Amanda Plummer's very last expression in the film hits me HARD everytime, it makes me cry. This is a VERY important film!

  • A twenty-something Amanda Plummer. Truly priceless.

  • I would love to see this movie.

  • I'd really like to see this film some time in the future. I'm in the UK and we can't even get VHS copies of this film. I wish it was distributed evenly, really...

  • i cant find this damn film anywhere (apart from a couple of 2nd hand vhs copies that are on ebay usa...)

    dammit the american movie industry occasionally produces a stunner, so why oh why do they pump out drivel like 'dancing with smurfs' from the turd factory in hollywood....

  • The first I heard "time to poop or get off the pot" was in this film. Static is a true gem. Shame Romanek doesn't share that sentiment.

  • One of the best films of the 80's. Bob Gunton as the nutty uncle is a joy.

  • Brilliant film! Easily one of the best American classics missed by most audiences due to poor distribution. I don't think the film makers really knew how incredible their film truly was. It should be re-issued on a platform release. I am glad to have a VHS copy and wish a DVD version was available, C'mon Keith Gordon, make it happen!

  • @tony501 Actually I think that can only be a VHS copy. Ok, maybe somebody put it on DVD medium ;) but I think a real DVD is yet to be released - and maybe it never will.

  • @movieboyandco hi, it is available on DVD, any probs and i can send you a link! :}
