TR3 - City: Gameplay & Strategy

Last level of the four London levels, in Tomb Raider 3. I didn't need any medipack and my health was over 50% at all times.

GOALS: You want to kill Sophia Leigh to get her artifact.

SITUATION: You are on one side and can shoot at her, but she never dies, while Sophia Leigh shoots energy bolts on the other side (and Lara CAN die).

HOW TO PROCEED: At the very top, there is an electric panel. Sophia climbs as you proceed to go higher. Speed is your ally. The main goal is to get to the top quickly.

SOPHIA's SHOOTING: The "energy bolts" (thanks to tombraiders.net for that definition) she shoots aren't shot in a regular interval. One thing you want to avoid at all time is when she reloads. You'll hear some noise and then a loud 'pshhew' or something, that's what you want to avoid, because it can swipe away 50% of Lara's health in one single shot.

Best is to wait for it if you know it's going to come, so that once you hear that sound you can jump to the side or backwards.
At the beginning I run forward and then run back, that's because Sophia wouldn't start shooting otherwise and climb up one ledge further up, thus being higher which leads to Lara's disadvantage. You always want to be higher than she is at all price or at least not lower.

If you cannot do the big jump at the beginning, you can always grab the ceiling and traverse this way. Sophia won't shoot Lara as much when she is hanging there, but still you want to get over quickly.

At the highest level on Lara's side you're confronted with another big jump - you can shoot the electric panel from the other side (without jumping), from what I've experienced it's kind of tricky though. For one, Lara aims at Sophia whenever she cans, so instead of shooting right in front of her she shoots at Sophia. Another reason is, you need to jump up to shoot the electric panel (she never aims it so you have to position her right and make her jump, otherwise she'll shoot too low).

Anyways, I recommend doing the big jump, but saving before. It took me several attempts to get all of the walkthrough at once without saving on video.

WARNING: Once you shoot the electric panel, =SAVE YOUR GAME=. This is due to various reasons, the main reason being that you can get electrified depending on where you walk. You can get all the pick-ups now in peace, no one is here to bother you. I recommend getting the secret after dealing with Sophia. Once you're at the very top you can get back down, I'm sure you'll find a way if you look around (there are various possibilities).

Then jump over to the other side avoiding the metal ledges that sparkle. There is a button to turn it off, then get the artifact.

The main thing to maintain control over this situation is to stay calm. At worst you have to reload or use a medipack. If you save in the middle of the level, I recommend using a new slot in case something unpredictable happens.

hmm... I recognized the sound the dog made in Demento when you mistreat it to be the same when you kill a dog in TR3.

Try "Demento 26 Dog Training, 13 Ways to Abuse Hewie" in YouTube search. But it's not done by Eidos nor Core Design from what I've read

That's cool, I started with TR3 when I was 12, but only had the Coastal Village demo. I have to say I followed a walkthrough most of the time on TR3, but managed to remember the whole game pretty well when I started doing these videos. Frankly, I'm actually quite proud of this one (video) because it makes me look like a good TR3 player :P. lol.

The idea behind this is that Sophia climbs up while Lara climbs up. So basically at the end she stands on a metal ledge and there is some kind of electric panel.

Once you shoot that one Sophia Leigh will get electrocuted.
