  • I've sailed on her as 4th engineer from october 26th 1969 till march 29th 1970.

Still have some nice memories, not only the interesting trip around the world, but also the specific passengers/students.

Same like me: they won''t be that good looking anymore nowadays, but will have develloped in other ways !!

Now, as a remember to those days, I've booked a trip from Tampa , Panama to Vancouver on the new RYNDAM, starting mid April 2010.

  • I, too, was on the S.S. Ryndam's July 1969 Southampton-New York voyage with the American Foreign Study League students, who had just ventured from Rome and up through Europe by bus. Sister Hildegaard Utermolen was my group chaperone. I still have my stateroom key with an aluminum fob stamped as "S.S. Ryndam Cabin 201 Main Deck." Apollo 11 landed on the moon on the day we arrived in NYC.

  • I was a graduate student on board the Fall 1967 voyage. Major itinerary changes canceled the Mediterranean ports because the Suez Canal was closed by the recent 3-Day War. We had to sail around Africa from Casablanca to Mombasa to resume the original itinerary. The ss Ryndam was a small liner, only 15,000 tons. We had all-dutch officers, with Captain Van Herk and First Officer Prins. Great crew, especially my cabin steward, Ton. We were happy to sail under the flag of the Netherlands.

  • In July of 1969 I sailed on this ship with a group of students participating in foreign study. We sailed from New York to Southampton and were on the ship for our July 4th holiday. Had a great time on the ship, but the food was not so great. I remember Hans Tehennepe (spelling?), my dining steward at the time, and he said the crew had much better food! After I was married, I found out that my husband immigrated to this country from Europe and arrived in New York on this same ship!

  • @Alpacaman20902 i was a student on the s.s.ryndam that summer - sailing from le havre, france to new york. i remember the storm - and lots of seasick students! at the time i didn't know anything about tropical depressions, but living in florida for many years and dealing with hurricanes, i realized that that must've been what the storm was. i put on nearly 15 pounds during that voyage!! the food was terrific!

  • Me too, I was aboard from July 69 - May 70working as a Bell Boy. Still have contact with people from those days. I cannot remember your name. So, tell some more.

  • I also sailed on this ship to New Zealan I was 5 years old we still have pictures of our trip.1965

  • I sailed from California to New York in 1970 on board her...four months around the world...I was an infirmary nurse for Chapman College's World Campus Afloat. We hit a storm between Hawaii and Japan that a rough enough to roll the captain out of bed...he broke his leg.
