Rembering Music Record Stores

On April 17, 2010; I visited a music record store called Soundwaves. With so many music stores long gone, I think back as to what made music stores so fun and why I think major department stores (like Walmart (or Wal-Mart)) do little, if anything, to REALLY connect people with music other than from mainstream artists in mainstream genres. As a beatmaker I can definetly appreciate records. Luckily for me there's a record store near me.

Good thoughts. I worked at a music store in the early 90's. New-age/jazz was big at the time. It was a used record store so it had all media. CD's were new at the time. Yes, there were definitely lots of "music" people hanging out there. Internet would have been cool back then, though, because if you couldn't find the music you were looking for at a local store, or some mail order catalog, you were out of luck entirely. At least w/ internet, you have chance of someone somewhere sharing.

Digital distribution is the only viable option for EDM. It's still in the 'long tail' of media consumption because it doesn't make the most money. (blueroof.files.wordpress[dot]­com/2006/10/long_tail.jpg)

Thankfully we still have a chain of stores like this in the UK. It's called HMV. Granted, they also sell DVDs, games and books as well as iPod accessories and other things, but the stores in Norwich, the biggest city near where I live do have big racks of CDs of various genres. There really is a lot of choice.

i have the same problem, no mainstream stores cater for my Trance/Dance needs, its all pop and indie! I usually buy from eBay now because it's so hard to find such CD's
